Very Good

Great little resort in the centre of Playa but feels more remote. Good selection of pools, very large rooms with nice hammocks.

Unfortunately the smell from sargassum was pretty bad and the beach was eroding quite quickly whilst we were there. Things largely out of their control.

Lost it's charm, food is NO BUENO and I will NOT be back.

I liked the beach and the gardens of the property. The pools looked nice but with no breeze nor fans the pool areas seemed a bit muggy.

THE FOOD! It was terrible! And they made you pay $120 per person extra for Xmas dinner which was extra awful!! Also, they insist on you paying BIG tips on all meals that are supposed to be included!

The location was gorgeous. The cabanas on the beach with the hammocks were out of a dream.

We had friends that were vacationing at a hotel next door. They were very strict on how we spent time with our friends.

The beach area of the hotel was really small, and it smelled really bad, like a fart OUTSIDE when we were close to the water.

Wonderful

The resort is really a paradise, everything is looked after in detail and the staff is incredibly kind and food is of very high quality… everyone does his best to make you enjoy your stay as much as possible. We have been served by the waiter Manuel a few times, he is just great and super professional. We keep a lovely memory of him and of the resort.

I think that the property could make the definitive step forward if they introduced more entertainment activity for the afternoon and evening; something to involve the hosts and make them to spend the night there. Actually, there is a program of activities but it’s rather slim and little involving, in my opinion.

Apple watch stolen by staff

You feel like in an oasis, the garden is absolutely fantastic with its 3 very nice pools. Very safe, they have many securities all around the hotel. Food is good.

My friend forgot his apple watch in the shower of the hotel. After check-out, as soon as we noticed it, we were able to locate the watch still in the room. When we contacted the hotel, they said nothing was found so that we unfortunately have to assume that it was stolen by its own personnel. This is an absolute NO-GO. Also when I contacted the hotel about this on Booking, after 4 messages I am still waiting for an answer. This matter was handled very poorly by the hotel and they seems to cover its staff although theft happened clearly to my friend. Be sure you always put valuables in your safe. Bathroom: unfortunately there was barely any water coming out of the shower, and very hard to find the right temperature.

Nice hotel for a short stay but be wary of the hidden costs with the food.

Room was good, breakfast was really excellent with loads of choice. The hotel was on the beachfront and had lots of pool options. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Location was brilliant and very easy to reach from Cancun airport and travel to nearby areas.

The all inclusive food option - we chose half board - what we didn't know was you have to tip every time and even though the meal was included in the hotel price that we paid we had to tip on the whole price of the meal - this made the meal very expensive and certainly put the price up. This should be made clear from the outset or tips should not be expected and covered within the half or full board options. The beach front was a public beach so it got super packed and noisy especially at night on the weekends - just be mindful if you're booking an ocean view or ocean villa. After here we went to Tulum and stayed there which we loved and then onto Mexico City where we felt we experienced more of Mexico and its culture.

It was everything we wanted and more!

Everything about the Mahekal is amazing - from the employees to the beautiful grounds to the food. This was our third time at the resort and we've always had exceptional service. The people that work there are so genuinely nice and accommodating. The location also contributes to the appeal - 38th street is the most beautiful tree lined street with lots of great restaurants away from the craziness of fifth avenue.

We loved everything! The only thing I would change is not visiting during the month of September. The humidity was out of control but the A/C in the room worked well. And because the rooms are situated amongst the natural landscape, there are mosquitos at night but they provide a bottle of bug spray in each room. Just don't forget to use it before you head out for the night.

100/10! Fantastic gem in the heart of playa

Literally everything! The location is super central, right in the center but secluded enough not to hear any noise, service is great, breakfast is amazing, we got lucky and there was zero sargasso and the beach was fantastic..literally loved everything so much that we decided to extend our stay!

Nothing! The only thing I would add is the option for breakfast only instead of half board but dinner was good too.

We were initially in Hut 5 which was impossible to sleep due to being beside a public access lane way to the beach where people came to party loudly at night. If booking beach front/view ensure to ask that it’s away from that access lane/road.

Very nice hotel will come back

The garden, the pool and the fauna are really exceptional. The service from the waiters at the restaurant was great, Marco, Enrique and nancy were really amazing. I also really enjoyed the ceramic activity Food was very good, in particular at the restaurant where you pay extra

- the way to book the (nice) restaurant Fuego is absolutely stupid. You need to book on the same day at the lobby ( dont accept to book on the phone from the room) the restaurant is mostly empty since it s an extra charge from the half board, but included with the all inclusive. - the room are a bit small and not a lot of lights ( palapa room) The bathroom had a bit of rust - the way the tips works is a bit confusing when you are all inclusive - would have appreciate one restaurant with AC as they are all open , hence very hot.

I've been to Mexico 5 different times and this is by far the best resort I've ever stayed at.

The staff are amazing and go above and beyond to make your stay the best it can be. There were guards at the gates at all times which made it feel very safe. Great location on the prettiest street in Playa del Carmen. Easy walking distance to everything you need.

Had trouble getting the temperature just right on the shower. It was either too hot or too cold.

The staff was amazing, the food was incredible and the resort is one of the best I have stayed in.

There is no parking for vehicles, but overall we had no issues because there is usually parking in front of the hotel.
